April update from Oliver Connell

Welcome to the latest update from the scheme's primary subcontractor, Oliver Connell & Son.

Once complete in Summer 2024, this exciting redevelopment will provide a 15-storey halls of residence. Features of this scheme include:

- A new gym
- External courtyards
- Roof terraces
- Shared kitchens
- Cinema room
- Laundry room
- Amenity space
- Staff offices

Progress on site: Site completed the reduced level dig and came across a lot of concrete obstructions that had to be removed. Site conducted a UXO survey and probed 95 locations to check for unexploded ordnances and nothing was found. The installation of the piling mat is 90% complete and piling works have commenced.

What's happening next? Site will be piling for the next nine weeks. Oliver Connell will be in attendance to assist the piling process and to manage works on site.

The Council, Oliver Connell and our main contractor, EQUANS (previously known as ENGIE), are committed to providing local employment, training and procurement opportunities.

Site will be supporting local businesses such as local supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and suppliers as much as possible whilst they complete the project.
