Equans provides work experience for Royal Engineer

Equans provided a work experience opportunity for a member of the Royal Engineers last month to aid his transition to a potential career within construction after leaving the forces.

On 30th August, Royal Engineer, Ashley Moore was invited to undertake work experience on the Glengall Road scheme in an effort to give him an insight into the construction industry and the potential career he could transition into after leaving the armed forces next year.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing employment and skills opportunities, Site Manager, Josh Peach worked closely with BuildForce, a company whom specialise in helping military personnel transition to civilian life and careers within construction to arrange for Ashley to spend the day on site, giving him a valuable insight into the modern methods of construction used at Glengall Road.

After receiving our standard site safety induction, Josh was on hand to give Ashley a personal escort around the live site so Ashley could learn about site management and routes into the industry, all whilst having his questions answered.

Grateful for this valuable experience, Ashley commented: Josh's comprehensive brief about the London School of Economics new student accommodation was very impressive. He gave me an informative video presentation with a detailed walking tour of what was currently happening on the construction site. He was very keen to display how sustainable for the environment the new accommodation would be, and how serious Equans are for standards of work and completion times.

"He patiently answered my questions about how I could bridge the gap from my current occupation with the Royal Engineers and what transferable skills I may have. It was very useful and his answers will help me in my transition to career in construction."
