School students receive site tour and insight into the industry

This month, in partnership with the Construction Youth Trust, Equans welcomed students from Deptford Green School to site to give them a first-hand insight into the world of construction.

Equans Site Manager, Josh Peach and Site Administrator, Ramona Catrut welcomed 15 school students to the Glengall Road site where they were given an escorted tour of the site.

"The Equans site visit was an amazing insight into a construction workplace for our young people. Students were introduced to a variety of careers and were really inspired and excited by being able to get onto the site and look around at the work that was happening in their area!"

Whilst at school, the students are also receiving help from charity, Construction Youth Trust, who aim to inspire and enable young people to overcome barriers and discover a career within the construction and built environment sector.

Starting with a full site safety induction, Josh then gave a detailed presentation about the scheme showing drone footage, the project's dedicated website, a video showcasing the scheme's expected programme and finished look and finally a detailed review of the process taken on site when visited by an auditor of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

"I think I want to work in construction now, I can join at the basic level or at a high level and keep improving."

During the tour around site, students were shown the modular/pre-fabricated elements of the build whilst Josh explained some of the challenges the team have faced as well as giving an overview of the reality of construction.

The day ended with a brief Q&A session where students were invited to ask any questions they had about the scheme and the works being delivered.

"Now I know that I will be able to get a job, this experience has shown me I can. Yes, I can get a good job and have a good life."

"I wanted to share a huge thank you for your support hosting the site visit. The programme reached over 50 students, with a range of SEN needs, and your time and support has been greatly appreciated." Georgia Spiteri, Programme Manager, Construction Youth Trust
