University students given personal site tour

University students were given a first-hand insight into construction management after receiving a personal escorted site tour from Site Manager and former uni student, Josh Peach.

Following the success of previous visits from his former university tutor, as well as a group of students, Site Manager, Josh Peach has agreed to work in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire and aid them in promoting courses, especially to those looking to start a career in construction by giving future students the opportunity to visit the Glengall Road site in person and receive a personal overview of the scheme.

On 9th February, several students from the University visited the scheme to receive a special tour of the site. Although just happy to receive a personal escort around a live construction site, the students, who are all currently on level 6 of their construction degree's and writing their dissertations, were specifically interested in the scheme's use of modular construction and pre-cast panelling system.

Upon arrival each student received a short introduction from Josh, before being given a full site specific safety induction and detailed overview of the scheme including drone footage of a large concrete pour and CGI proposals for how the scheme will run. Josh also went through his recent presentation given to the Considerate Constructors Scheme where he received a thoroughly deserved top score of 45/45.

After successfully completing their site induction and adorning their personal protective equipment, Josh led the students back to the site's entrance for a quick recap and overview of the site safety rules and specific risks/hazards from the day's activities being undertaken.

Joined by Site Administrator, Ramona, Josh personally escorted the group of students around the site to get a first person view of the works being undertaken, taking time to regularly stop and explain specific elements of the works including an in-depth explanation of the scheme's modular elements for the pre-cast panelling system used for the façade and bathroom pods.

Throughout the visit, students were given the opportunity to ask Josh questions about the scheme and also about his personal experience of studying at the University and then putting his studies into practice on a live site.

Following the escort around site and before leaving, Josh invited the students back to his site office where they could ask him any further questions they had whilst also discussing their thoughts around the scheme and it's use of modular construction, hopefully taking away with them a new wealth of knowledge and a valuable insight into the industry.

Josh will be providing a number of future opportunities for students to return to the site so that they can see the entire project from it's initial stages right through to completion.
