University students given valuable insight into construction industry

Earlier this month, in partnership with the London South Bank University (LSBU), Equans welcomed first year students to site to give them a first-hand insight into the world of construction.

At the beginning of March, Equans Senior Project Manager, Alex Emirali welcomed a group of first year university students to the Glengall Road site where they were given an escorted tour of the site to give them a real life understanding of what's involved with project management in relation to the scheme.

Starting with a full site safety induction, Alex then gave a detailed presentation covering the fundamentals of the project, a video showcasing the scheme's expected programme and finished look and finally a detailed review of the process taken on site when visited by an auditor of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

Alex also explained the challenges, constraints and issues experienced to date and answered any questions the students had. This was then followed by a tour around the site where the students could see in real-time some of the issues that had been spoken about in the presentation.

The group of students, who are studying construction management, were a mix of architectural technologists, project managers, site managers and surveyors. Dr James Bishop, course leader for construction management at LSBU also attended.

The day ended with a brief Q&A session where students were invited to ask any questions they had about the scheme and the works being delivered.
